Welcometothewebsiteforthe2011ACMConferenceonComputerSupportedCooperativeWork.CSCW2011willbethetwenty-thirdCSCWconferenceandwillbeheldontheedgeofscenicWestLakeinHangzhou,ChinafromMarch19–23.WeareveryexcitedtohostCSCWinAsiathisyear,thefirsttimethattheconferencewillbeheldoutsideofNorthAmerica.Wechosethethemeof“BuildingBridges”forthisyear’sconferencetoreflectthewaythatCSCWbridgesbetweensocialandtechnicalcommunities,toencouragebuildingbridgeswiththeAsianCSCWresearchcommunitybyhostingitinChina,andtoevoketheimageofbridgesforwhichthecityofHangzhouisknown.

CSCWisapremiervenueforpresentingresearchinthedesignanduseoftechnologiesthataffectgroups,organizations,andcommunities.Thedevelopmentandapplicationofnewtechnologiescontinuestoenablenewwaysofworkingtogetherandcoordinatingactivities.Althoughworkisanimportantareaoffocusfortheconference,technologyisincreasinglysupportingawiderangeofrecreationalandsocialactivities.CSCWhasalsoembracedanincreasingrangeofdevices,aswecollaboratefromdifferentcontextsandsituations.Theconferencebringstogethertopresearchersandpractitionersfromacademiaandindustrywhoareinterestedinboththetechnicalandsocialaspectsofcollaboration.

HoldingCSCWinanewenvironmenthasinspiredustotrysomenewthingsthisyear.ThisisthefirstCSCWtoestablishournewannualrhythmfortheconference.Pleasetakenoteofthesubmissiondatesthisyear(PapersandNoteswillbesubmittedinAugust2010),markyourcalendars,checkthiswebsiteregularly,andstartplanningearly!Wearealsotryingsomedifferentvenuesaspartoftheconferencethisyear.PleaseexploretheCallforParticipationtofindthebestplaceorplacesforyoutosubmityourwork.
